Book Review: Divergent

I know the Divergent series are starting to make their way to the big screen and many people want to read the books, but aren't sure if they are any good. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I read the series a couple of years ago and couldn't put the book down. My head was constantly behind the book with my bedroom door shut as I took an adventure through Tris' life as a divergent. Divergent  series is a young adult novel by Veronica Roth. This novel takes place in a dystopian world where there is 5 factions in which 16 year olds are placed after taking a test that determines where they will fit the best. One has to dedicate the rest of their lives in their given faction. The 5 factions are Candor(the honest), Dauntless(the brave), Amity (the peaceful), Abnegation(the selfless), and the Erudite(the intelligent). However, Tris isn't like the rest, she's divergent. Divergent people are in serious danger and are often immediately put to death. Tris must keep the secret and  be aware of who  her true friends are as she chooses Dauntless as her faction and tries to live a normal life. If you are going through a  Hunger Games withdrawal(yes, I did), then you will most likely enjoy Divergent. You will fall in love with the well created characters who are real and you can feel what they are feeling. Divergent is action packed and will never cease to keep you occupied and your heart racing. You can buy this book on Kindle for $4.99 or but it on amazon.com for as low as $5.49. Here is the amazon link http://www.amazon.com/Divergent-Veronica-Roth/dp/0062024035

Book Review: Ender's Game

Recently, I have read Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.I recommend that you read this book before you see the movie, if you  haven’t seen the movie yet. If you have seen the movie, I still believe that it is worth reading. This science fiction book will encapture the reader within the first ten pages. Take a journey into six year old Ender Wiggin’s life as he journeys from earth to outer space. It is set in the future during a time when children are sent to space in order to train to become military leaders so they can prevent the dreaded “buggers” from attacking earth once again. Ender is an unusually brilliant child who lives with his parents, his violent brother Peter, and his beloved sister Valentine. Ender was drafted to attend Battle School and had to leave his family for the first time. He fears that he will become like his brother, so he tries his best to maintain a balance between compassion and violence. Despite being a loner amongst the other students, he develops into a strong leader. Could he be the long awaited general to fight the buggers? Ender’s Game is a winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards. I would rate this book as a 4.5 out of 5. If you enjoy sci-fi or action packed stories, I guarantee that this book is the perfect fit for you. The reader can easily connect with Ender’s character and sympathize with him through his hard times and feel happy for him during his good times. You can buy it on Kindle for $3.99 or for as low as $4.82 on amazon.com. Click on the link to buy this book now! http://www.amazon.com/Enders-Game-The-Ender-Quintet/dp/0812550706

Amazing Gracie

I have finished the book Amazing Gracie.Written by Mark Beckloff and Dan Dye. This is a true story. It is 247 pages long. Here is a little bit about the book:

Gracie was a half-blind and fully deaf Great Dane. She was the only puppy left and was going to b e put down because no one liked her, even her mother didn't like her. When Dan Dye heard about her at work from his friend at work,he went to go check her out. She came right up to him as if she was begging him to take her home. He said that he would take her. The breeder was trying to get hm not to buy her because of her problems, but he didn't care.He brought her home and "the girls" a dalmatian and a black lab didn't get along with her. They kept trying to hurt her. Mark showed them who was boss and they stopped and became best friends. Gracie became "one of the girls." Then Gracie became picky and wouldn't eat.she was becoming really skinny. When Dan's friend from work said that he should make homemade dog food,he thought it was a good idea, but one problem he didn't know how to cook. After a lot of practice he became a great chef for the girls. Dan's friend Mark suggested that they make a dog bakery together. Dan was shocked, but then noticed that this was a good idea. So they bought an old bakery that no one was using. It had all of the tools that are needed for baking built-in. They named it the Three Dog Bakery. Some people thought they were crazy by making a bakery for dogs. At the same time people thought it was a great idea.Once there was this little deaf boy.Gracie layed on the floor and comforted him,she was making a weird humming sound too. The boy's mother was crying because it was so sweet. Gracie became old and had a hard time walking. She had to throw herself down in order to lay on the floor. When she could no longer walk the vet came to put her down. She died at age 10. The vet had been with her from the start and called her a little miracle and a little miracle she was. They got a new Great Dane named Claire she was half-blind and deaf also. She had a little bit of time with Gracie and was sad about her. She tried to play with Gracie and realized she was gone. Claire gave Gracie the toy they played with together.

I enjoyed this book because it tells how a dog with so many problems can make things change in a lonely person's life.It also tells about the companionship between man and dog,Man's Best Friend.

The Last Dog On Earth

I just finished reading the book The Last Dog On Earth. It is 233 pages long. The author is Daniel Ehrenhaft. I enjoyed this book because it was full of action. It also showed how an ugly mutt/shelter dog ,can change someones life and the world. Here is a little bit about the book.

Logan Moore is always getting made fun of and no one really likes him. His step dad, Robert, is mean to him. One day Logan tried one of his inventions at the Wallace's house, a rich family on the block, and it broke many of their things. Mr. Wallace and Robert were mad at him. Robert said that taking on the responsibility of a dog would be his punishment.
Robert wanted purebred Chocolate Lab like the Wallace's but Logan didn't. He wanted to save a life at the shelter. Without discussing it with Robert, Logan's mom took him to the shelter to pick out a dog. He was looking at the dogs and there was an ugly, crazy dog. She couldn't find a home because she didn't like anyone, until Logan. He named her Jack because Robert wanted a boy dog and he wanted it to be named Jack. She wasn't a boy,but her name stayed the same. Logan borrowed a lot of books from the library on how to train dogs. He trained her well. All though she ruined all of Robert's stuff and urinated in his bathroom. Robert didn't like Jack at all. He threw a big fit about her.
There was a terrible disease going around the town. It was called POS otherwise known as Phsycotic Outburst Syndrome. Every dog was catching this disease. When they would become infected they would just lay there until disturbed. Then they would stumble and would begin to foam at the mouth. After that, blood would start to drip out of their mouths because they were bloodthirsty. Then they would attack. What was worse humans could contract this disease too. If a human was bit they would have to go straight to the hospital. All the people could do was shoot the dogs. They even had lessons on how to do it properly.
Logan and Jack were at the store and the store manager made his diseased dog attack them. Logan exploded a spray in the microwave to stop the dog. The manager called Robert and he was furious. Logan was sent to Boot Camp and had to leave Jack behind. The people at Boot Camp were mean and were getting him into trouble. They were called maggots. Logan ran away as soon as he could. While Logan was gone,Jack was kept in the basement . She was starving .She dug out of the basement and ran 40 miles to see Logan. Jack was attacked by two dogs. Both dogs were infected with POS. She was seriously injured, but didn't catch POS. Logan's real Dad,Dr. Westerly, found them and took them to his place. He was a scientist and tested Jack for POS and found out she was immune. She was the only dog that was immune and were able to make a cure from her. Jack was almost shot by Rudolph Stagg, a diseased human, but Logan dived in front of the gun and was shot. He went to the hospital to recover. A few days later Rudolph Stagg died from POS. They couldn't heal Jack's wounds because she was so injured. When Logan recovered they had to put Jack down.
In the story, Jack was a hero to all of the people and dogs. Logan was sad to see Jack go. He said he would never forget her and for the first time in along time he was able to cry. Jack was only one year old when she died. They made a cure and everyone was healed.
