The Facts About Animal Cruelty

*Puppy mills care more about profit then the well being of the animals. Many of the dogs that are in puppy mills are plagued with diseases and are very unhealthy due to the conditions they live in.
*Every year thousands of healthy greyhounds are killed because they aren't able to race, lack competiveness, and are injured.
* Dog fighting started in the US after the civil war in the 1860's. It was entertainment for police officers and firemen. Today, dog fighting is in all regions of the US. Dog fighting kills thousands of innocent pit bulls and gives them a bad name.
*There are 900-2,000 new cases of animal hoarding each year in the US. A quarter million animals are victims of hoarding.
* Over 100 million animals are killed each year in US laboratories for chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. These animals are monkeys, mice, rats, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and many others.
*All major circuses have been cited for violating the minimal standards of care by the United States Animal Welfare.
*Due to genetic manipulation, 90% of broiler chickens have trouble walking.
*The exotic pet trade has killed many animals to be killed prematurely because they are violently removed from their natural homes and it causes a lot of stress.

Cruel Chicken Factories

Billions of chickens are raised in factories each year in the U.S. Hundreds of millions of chickens never go outdoors. They live in dark, rank smelling egg factories. They are jammed together in tiny cages. They can't even stretch a wing. This is very sad. They are covered in sores and the eggs they lay go right onto a conveyor belt. They are never raised by their mothers, as a matter of the fact they never even knew them. They aren't allowed to live naturally. When we eat chickens we sometimes get the stomach flu because they lived in factories where they were not living healthily. So keeping them in these factories is not doing us any good. Turkeys, geese and ducks also live in these conditions. Thousands of chickens are being killed right now as you're reading this. Don't buy anything with real feathers. Chickens and other birds died for those items. Go to www.goveg.com to learn more about chickens. Also for information on factory farmed chickens go to: www.fawn.me.uk/ , Farm Animal Welfare Network 's (FAWN) website. You can write to FAWN @ P.O box 40, Holmfirth HD9 3YY,UK. I know they are just chickens, but they are also a life. God created them to live a happy life on earth and He created us to care for them, not kill them. So please help the chickens today!!!
I found this information in the book: 50 Awesome Ways Kids Can Help Animals( Fun and Easy Ways to be a Kind Kid) by Ingrid Newkirk.

Help Fight Dog Fighting App "Dog Wars"

The ASPCA is strongly against the dog fighting app "Dog Wars". It glorifies dog fighting which is illegal in real life. Players inject their dogs with steroids, bet virtual money and shoot cops during a bust. The ASPCA needs OUR help to get rid of this app. I personally think it is wrong and I don't know why soemone would want to play this game. At the same time though, people play violent games and enjoy it for some reason. Go to www.aspca.org to sign the petition to fight the dog wars app. It should be under news at the top of the page. The ASPCA needs YOUR help.

Too Hot For Spot

Now that summer is near, we need to take care of our hot dogs and other pets that may get over heated.

Did you know?

  1. When the temperature outside is above 70 degrees, the inside of a parked car can reach 120-175 degrees within minutes even with the windows cracked.

  2. Even in the shade a car can get as hot as an oven.

  3. Even if the air conditioning is on, hot air swiftly replaces the cold.

  4. Animals left in a car can suffer serious , sometimes fatal, heat-stroke.
  5. Dogs sweat only through their footpads and through their mouths by panting.

What You can Do

  1. Never leave an animal parked in the car, even for a few minutes.
  2. Watch for animals in cars on hot days, if the animal doesn't look too well call the humane society.
  3. If a car is parked outside of a large store, ask a manager to make an announcement. Many dogs have been saved by this.
  4. Ask radio stations to make announcements about leaving your dog in a car on the radio.
  5. Dogs aren't the only animals that need a chill in the summer. Birds and rabbits may need your help to cool off too. Look out for dogs on chains or rabbits in cages that look like they may not be getting fresh water daily. Remind the owners politely to fill the animal's water and to make sure they keep it up.You can also make a birdbath out of a baking pan, but make sure that you keep the water clean.

No Fur Please!!!!!

Did you know that up to 15 beavers, 25 foxes, 35 raccoons, 40 minks, or 50 muskrats are killed to make just one fur coat!!!!!
Beavers are close to endangerment or extinction because of this cruelty. Beavers help people by building their dams to stop erosion. People put traps in the water and then when they come out of their dams, where they live, they drown and are then used to make clothes.
Some animals, such as domestic dogs and cats, are killed for their pelts in China. They knock their heads on the concrete and are killed to make collars and trim, toys, glove linings, and sometimes cat toys. Two 2 million cats and dogs are killed for fur every year. That is a lot of animals. So ask your store if their clothes are made out of fur. If they say yes, DON'T buy their products.
Help these animals who didn't do anything to be able to live a happy life.
Thanks!!!!

10 ways to stop Pit bull fighting

"Hey, we need help."
Dog fighting is considered a "sport" to many people. Many pit bulls die from this cruel"sport". We need to make a difference here are 10 ways to help stop this.

1.Support stronger laws.

2. If you see dog fighting, contact a local newspaper or television station to report about it.

3. Write your local law enforcement and tell them they should start investigating dog fighting and make it a priority. Dog fighting is a crime and it should be investigated by the police!

4. If there is someone in your neighborhood trying to fight dogs, contact the police or animal control and give them as much information as possible.

5. Protect your pets from being stolen and brought into the fights.

6. Adopt a pit bull and save his/her life. These dogs make perfect companions.

7. Set a good example to others, tell them how great pit bulls are. Tell them how to properly care for them.

Say No to Pet Store Puppies

At any shopping area there is usually a pet store. There is usually a few adorable puppies in the window. People saying," Awwwwwww!!" Children saying," I want that puppy please, please, please!!!!" Puppies put on their puppy faces to make it even harder to resist. The pet store is counting on people like us to not resist these cute puppy faces, sad eyes and little tails wagging saying"Take Me Home. I'm The One You want." Then the employees say" Would you like to hold one?" Then you find yourself in trouble when you get home.
The truth behind all of this: cute puppies, helpful employees, acting like these puppies are so great. The whole beginning of their life is horrible!!!!
Puppy Mills: A Horror Story!!!
Most pet store's get their puppies from puppy mills no matter what they say, unless they have a picture of the dog's parents and the breeder. They usually get these dogs from Puppy Mills in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. That is why pet store puppies are so expensive! There are at least 4,000 puppy mills in the US. They over breed female dogs starting at six months old until they no longer can have puppies (around age five )and then they are disposed. They are put to death and not even buried. They are thrown into a dumpster. Sad huh? There puppies may look clean at the pet store, but at the puppy mill they have oozing sores, maggot infested food, and filthy cages. The cages are cramped, wire stacked on top of each other, living in their own waste and the adult dogs live the same way. These puppies and dogs have never seen a blade of grass and usually don't know how to walk on grass or concrete. They never have chased a ball, slept on a soft surface, or been cuddled by a human. Most likely, they have never had human contact. These puppies are ripped from their mothers at 4 weeks old, crammed into crates and shipped to pet stores to be sold. The puppies most likely will have health problems or aggressive behavior because they have never had human contact. They are also difficult to housebreak because they slept and lived in their own feces before. If you buy a puppy from a pet store, you are supporting these horrible places. If we all stop buying dogs in this way, puppy mills will run out of money and will have to shut down their business eventually.
Once my family bought a Golden Retriever from a pet store or really a puppy mill. He was aggressive and didn't know how to walk on the grass. He bit my hand so hard it became numb. He was probably one of those sad puppies. That is the last time we will buy from a pet store. If you want a puppy, adopt from a breeder or an animal shelter. In both of these environments they have plenty of human contact and grow up in a better environment. They get to stay with their parents until they are at least 8 weeks or older.

Friends Don't Chain Friends!!!!!!!!!

Friends don't chain friends!!!! Let Dogs inside!!!! Please don't chain your dog. It is one of the worst things you can do to your pet. Dogs become aggressive when they are chained and are very unhappy. You shouldn't chain your dog(s) for more than 1 hour per day.
Dogs are pack animals and need humans to survive. Leaving your dog in the garage or yard on a chain is a very sad thing to do. Instead of chaining your dog while your @ work or not home, buy a crate. Crates are very useful training tools and are cruelty free, as long as your dog doesn't live in the crate. Dogs usually like it in the crate and think of it as a"den". After they are crate-trained. While you're at home and if you get bored, instead of your dog sitting sadly on a chain. Grab the leash and take a walk with your dog. Play fetch or take it to the park. Your dog will thank-you.
If the reason for chaining your dog is because of behavioral issues you could hire a trainer and your dog will be as good as new. Chaining will not help the behavioral problems, it will only make it worse. Thank-you for NOT chaining your dog.

Learn more @ http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/ I hope you change your decisions about chaining your dog. I will Thank you, your neighbors and your dog will thank you too.
